What are Free Joomla Templates?

February 7th, 2011

There are different types of content management systems, or CMSes, like Fedora, Hippo, and Joomla. The function of a CMS is to manipulate a webpage’s content.  Specifically, free Joomla templates are customizable frameworks for a website. Joomla templates are written in PHP and typically compatible with all major web browsers. Websites are large repositories of information, and a CMS helps in sharing, storing, collecting, distributing, publishing, maintaining, editing, viewing, and retrieving that data. Just for reference, data is here defined as images, text, videos, or any other content that may be found on a webpage. A CMS essentially creates a website without needing any prior knowledge of programming. CMSes are needed when for nonprofessionals make a website, unless they are willing to pay a web designer an arm and a leg. Joomla is open source, meaning it can be downloaded for free. Joomla templates have been downloaded countless times because of their ability to be customized, and will only get more popular. They are compatible across platforms and have a general public license under GNU.
